While third party guardianships of minors has already made the change, starting January 1, 2022, the Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Other Protective Arrangements Act will take affect for other forms of guardianship. Just as with the third party guardianshipps of minors (which replaced third party custody). we will need to adjust to a lot of changes. To begin with, terminology will changes (e.g., a Guardian of the Estate will be a "Conservator", a Guardian ad Litem will become a "Court Visitor", and rather than issuing Letters of Guardianship, there will be "Letters of Orders". While much will remain close to current practices, there are a lot of substantive changes and it appears that they will apply to existing guardianships. More to follow...
